This larger spread is not evident in the middle quartiles, however. The box plot not only shows how the mean distance measurement is smaller for Company B, but it gives you an indication that the difference is somewhat significant.

That could lead to some embarrassing mistakes. For qualitative data, one of the variables in the graph has no implied order, which lends a measure of vagueness to the picture. A bar graph, for example, will display the qualitative data on the horizontal axis (or X-axis), the order being alphabetic, and information on the vertical axis (or Y-axis) will generally be quantitative. Quantitative data usually come in the form of informative measurements instead of simple attributes. Compared with qualitative data, quantitative (or numerical) data allows us to employ more powerful graphical tools and find out more about the collected information.
